- TitleMary, Newby Hall to Amabel, Wrest Park Describes her recent journey around Yorkshire. At York A. Harris was shown the Minster; at Beverley they stayed at an inn, which was too full of soldiers and tobacco. They then travelled to the East Riding, and stayed at Hull, which they were shown by a friend of Mr Kempsthorne. She describes the town, including the docks, promenade and an old fort. They returned to Beverley, and then travelled to Castle Howard and Malton. Castle Howard seemed uncomfortable, and comments, "there is certainly too much of Vanburgh's inordinate love of Masonry and the remains of the old Terraces and leaden Statues may be reckoned giggish". The countryside surrounding Duncombe Park was beautiful, and the house had fine pictures and statues, and she found the views from the terraces more impressive than those from Castle Howard and Riveaux Abbey. They travelled to the top of the Hambleton Hills, to Whitestone Cliff, before returning to Newby Park.
