Grantham, St.James's to Mountstuart, Turin (No 7, draft) Acknowledges receipt of letters. The greatest diligence is required regarding the "measures of a court which seems to be engaging in a closer connection with our enemies than is consistent with either their long professed System or their natural interests". The intermarriages between Royal House of France and Sardinia may alter the politics of the latter. The King has been concerned with what has been happening in Geneva. M. D'Juernois has been with Grantham and other ministers. The object of his commission is to "secure a favourable reception for such families as were determined to quit Geneva, & not only a favourable reception but such positive Encouragement & Support as might reimburse their Expences, & lay the foundation of an Establishment in this Country". It is a "matter of serious consideration whether anything or how much could be done for them".
