- TitleGrantham, St. James's to Keith, Vienna (No 19) (Marked 'Cy') Due to warlike preparations in Russia there is little prospect of settlement in the Crimea. The appearance of things at Vienna does not "suggest a design to cooperate heartily with Empress". Difficult to know the extent of the Emperor's dealings with the Czarina. Prince Kaunitz is "utterly averse" to the idea of a Turkish war. It is hazardous for the Court of Vienna to take a decisive part in the war without losing the friendship and connection with France. Emperor delaying his intended journey to Italy may throw more light. Concern that His Imperial Majesty should have listened to the insinuations of the Court of Versailles.
