- TitleMutual Agreement Parties: (i) Elizabeth Nelson, spinster; James Usher and Mary Ann, his wife; Charles Jeeves (eldest son and heir of Mary Ann Usher by William Jeeves, her first husband); (ii) Mercy Cross, widow; Lavinia Nelson Cross (daughter of Mercy Cross) Reciting: - will of William Nelson of Sandy, blacksmith, deceased devising his property in Sandy to his wife Ann, remainder to his surviving children Elizabeth Nelson, Maria Nelson, Mary Ann Usher and Mercy Cross; - death of Ann Nelson; - death of Maria Nelson, intestate; - premises formerly of William Nelson were liable to a mortgage charge of 360 which now, with arrears of interest, amounted to 500; - Elizabeth Nelson and James and Mary Ann Usher occupied the two roomed tenement forming part of William Nelson's former property without paying rent to Mercy Cross; - (ii) agreed to take on the 500 charge; - Elizabeth Nelson and Mary Ann Usher allowed to occupy the two roomed tenement for life rent free; - (ii) entitled to sole possession of the remaining hereditaments of William Nelson in Sandy - i.e. dwelling house in occupation of Dixie with wheelwright's shop and smith's shop in occupation of Judd and plumber's shop in occupation of Mackaness; - Charles Jeeves was paid 1/- by James and Mary Ann Usher and, at their request, joined in the agreement Operative Part: - the agreement outlined above was to be put into effect within 15 days Witness: - William Nelson Elizabeth Nelson, James Usher and Charles Jeeves all signed by mark Endorsements: - "The 2/6 for Duty on this Agreement was received by me on Wednesday the 2nd of September 1857 and the Agreement was forwarded by me to Mr.Cooch as Head Distributor (together with other matters of Stamp Duty) on the 4th Sept. No printed instructions such as those annexed had ever been sent to me. Henry Lewington, Sub-Distributor, Shefford. The party insists that he is entitled to have the Stamp impressed"; - "10th Oct 57.
