- nominating Lancelot Andrewes, Samuel Whitbread and John Andrews as executors; - desiring to be buried in N side of Hadley churchyard if he died within 20 miles or, if at more than 20 miles, to be buried in the place he died; - witnesses: Thomas Stagg, attorney at law in Red Cross Street, London; William Shield, clerk to Thomas Stagg; Thomas Strong; Codicil of 28 Aug 1767 directing that if his nephew Samuel Bailward died leaving testator's brother or any of his sisters still alive then his legacy should be shared equally by them; witnessed by Thomas Stagg, William Shield and Thomas Strong Codicil of 28 Aug 1767 directing that if his nephew Samuel Bailward died leaving testator's brother or any of his sisters still alive but also left a widow and/or children then the bequests were to follow statute Codicil of 23 Dec 1769 directing that, his brother-in-law John Bailward having paid him 800 of the 1,000 he owed him, should receive an additional legacy of 800 and be forgiven the outstanding 200 and interest; also, having given Samuel Bailward 1,000 to set up in business the testator reduced his legacy to 1,000; also, bequeathing his servant Richard Chamberlin 10 with an additional 10 if he lived with testator at testator's death Affidavit of 2 May 1770 by Thomas Strong of St.Giles, Cripplegate, London, gentleman and Joseph Delafield of St.Giles, Cripplegate, gentleman that they knew Thomas Shewell, late of Hadley, deceased and confirmed the second codicil of 28 Aug 1767 and third of 23 Dec 1769 to be in his handwriting;
