    Abstract of Title of Messrs Fowlers to Copyhold Estate held of Manor of Biggleswade - presentment of 22 Apr 1752 that on 7 Mar 1746 Albion Throckmorton of Hemingford Abbots [Huntingdonshire] conditionally surrendered a cottage in Biggleswade to use of James Brooke of Kingston, Dorchester [Dorset], gentleman by way of mortgage for 2,170; - presentment of 26 Oct 1773 that on 27 Aug 1773 James Brooke surrendered the cottage, late in occupation of Roger Layton, to use of Dennis Herbert; - surrender of 20 & 21 Apr 1762 of James Brooke of cottage in Shortmead Street with adjoining hempland in occupation of Samuel Holden to use of Richard Clayton of Biggleswade who was then admitted; - surrender of 21 & 22 Oct 1766 of Richard Clayton of the cottage in Shortmead Street to use of Thomas Allen; - surrender of 29 & 30 Oct 1771 of Thomas Allen of the hempland adjoining a cottage in occupation of Thomas Allen in Shortmead Street late in occupation of Samuel Holden, then of William Hands to use of Thomas Whittington; - surrender of 23 Jan 1765 by Robert Goodes (eldest son of Robert and Martha Goodes) and Robert Hewett (to whom a former surrender had been made by Robert Goodes junior to indemnify against a bond for 50) of cottage in Shortmead Street in occupation of Robert Goodes together with a piece of land called the Hempland (to which Robert and Martha Goodes had been admitted on 22 Oct 1724) to use of David Leach for suffering a common recovery; - presentment of 24 & 25 Apr 1770 than on 15 Jan 1770 Robert Goodes and Robert Hewitt surrendered the cottage and hempland in Shortmead Street of half a acre to use of Thomas Whittington; - presentment of 31 Oct & 1 Nov 1780 that Thomas Whittington held the premises surrendered to him by Robert Goodes and Robert Hewitt and the premises surrendered to him by Thomas Allen and that he had surrendered them to use of his will of 22 Dec 1772 devising, after the death of his wife, part of his premises to his eldest son Thomas Whittington and part to his youngest son William Harrison Whittington; and the two sons were admitted; - presentment of 17 & 19 Apr 1781 that on 2 Feb 1781 Thomas and William Whittington surrendered the premises inherited from their father to use of Dennis Herbert who was admitted; - surrender of 25 & 26 Oct 1784 by Dennis Herbert of: messuage and hempland in Biggleswade to which he was admitted in 1773 on surrender of James Brooke; cottage in Shortmead Street in occupation of Robert Goodes, house and ground late of Sir Thomas Bromsall, then of his heirs; hempland of half an acre in occupation of Robert Goodes; hempland adjoining cottage in occupation of Thomas Allen in Shortmead Street formerly in tenure of Samuel Holden then William Rands to which he was admitted in 1781 on surrender of Thomas and William Harrison Whittington; all to use of John Trott who was admitted; - surrender of 25 & 26 Oct 1784 of John Trott to use of Mary Sheffield to secure an annuity of 31/10/- to her; - surrender on 22, 23 & 27 Oct 1790 by John Trott of his premises in Shortmead Street in occupations of Daniel Norris, William Corbet, John Croft, Benjamin Walker, George Walker, John Carrington, Edward Jackson and Thomas Simpson and a stable in Shortmead Street in occupation of Joseph Barker (to which he was admitted on surrender of Dennis Herbert in 1784) to use of William Fowler to secure an annuity to Mary Sheffield; - surrender on 22, 23 & 27 Oct 1790 by William Fowler to use of John Trott to secure 1,600, on which satisfaction was entered on 15 Oct 1792; - surrender on 22, 23 & 27 Oct by William Fowler to use of his will; - surrender of 23 Jan 1793 by William Fowler of all his premises to use of Henry Holland, James Piggott Ince, John Edison and George Maule subject to annuity to Mary Sheffield and provisoes in an indenture of 6 Nov 1792 between (1) William Fowler; (2) James Rust and Margaret his wife; (3) Henry Holland, James Piggott Ince, John Edison and George Maule; - presentment of 10 & 11 Apr 1801 of death of William Fowler and by his will of 22 Jul 1800 devised his premises to his sons William Fowler and George Fowler subject to charge for annuity; the sons were admitted; - indenture of 2 Oct 1801 between (1) Henry Holland, James Piggott Ince and George Maule; (2) James Rust and Margaret his wife; (3) William and George Fowler RECITING: surrender of William Fowler of 23 Jan 1793; the premise, amongst others, were charged with a mortgage to (1) of 11,000; (3) had suggested conveying certain hereditaments to (1) in lieu of those charged with mortgage; WITNESSING (1) quitclaimed the premises to (3); - indenture of 23 Oct 1801 between (1) James Wilson (to whom part of Mary Sheffield's annuity had been assigned), William Cartwright and Mary his wife (formerly Mary Sheffield); (2) William and George Fowler in which (1) quitclaimed their interest in the premises to (2) in return for certain considerations
