- Scope and ContentWilliam Batchelor describes how he assists Mrs Sarah Gamby, a pawnbroker, in her shop on the High Street every Saturday, and the events involving the prisoner the previous Saturday. William Coombs tells how he arrested the prisoner in Northampton and brought him back to Bedford. 'On our way to Bedford I made his handcuffs more secure and the prisoner then said to me: "You have no cause to be afraid of me. You behave to me like a Gentleman and I will behave well to you, I know that I am done, I know that I committed the robbery and I will tell the magistrates so when I get before them, for the sooner I am transported the better, but I thought if I could get over this job I had made up my mind to lead a better life or else a worse one ..." Vincent Blunt says: "I had not had anything to eat for two or three days and I thought I might as well do something. I thought if I got to prison I should have some vituals there. I thought I might as well be transported as die with hunger ...'
