  • Title
    Report of William Nottingham. He was in the Crown Inn with George Bygrave when Thomas Smith came in and caused a row. The landlord refused to serve him because he was so drunk. Nottingham had a pony and cart in the yard. Smith went out and took hold of the pony. When Nottingham went out and told Smith to leave the pony alone Smith hit him on the head. George Bygrave came between them but did not touch Smith. Smith fell down because he was so drunk. Report of Phillip Mardlin who was also in the Crown Inn. He saw Smith have words with Nottingham and strike out at him. Bygrave stopped the blow. He saw Smith try to take the pony and cart away and Bygrave hit him. Report of Thomas Smith, Labourer of Biggleswade, who said he was in the bar of the Crown inn with Nottingham and Bygrave. He had some words with Nottingham and went outside and said 'Go on old girl' to the pony. Bygrave came out and hit him in the eye and knocked him down.
