    Folio 48 - Thomas White of Cranfeld made 16 Feb 1555/6 pr. 4 Feb. 1556/7 “I commend my sowle to Godes mercye will my body to be buried in the churche of Sainct Peter in Cranfeld”. To church for tithes forgotten 3s. 4d.; to the bells 3s. 4d.; to the covering of the same church 20s.which is to be given to the church wardens. To the priest and clerk at the burial 20s. and to the poor people 20s.. At his months tide to the priests and clerks and to the poor people 10s.. To the poor people of Hulcote 10s. and to the poor people of Salford 6s. 8d.. To the poor people at his year’s mind 10s. and to the priests and clerks 5s.. Towards the workmanship to make a causeway from the churchyard towards the Est End £10 as far as it will stretch. To wife Elizabeth the messuage where he dwells and the ground called Archers with the appurtenances and all the lands belonging, and also the tenement called Newoldes and another called Bankes with the lands going with it, and the copyholding called Sqiars and the closes called Horley Close, Hoggyscrofte and the Burne Yard and all other testator’s lands and meadows and pasture, both freehold and copyhold in the common or open fields of Cranfeld for her lifetime, and she to have also 20s. a year out of testator’s lands and tenements in Hulcote out of the rent that William Hill pays, and 20s. yearly out of lands in North Crawleye and Molso to come out of the rent paid by Walter Mabley and Thomas Mathewe. To his son John and the heirs of his body all testator’s property in Hulcott, and after death of testator’s wife all the property to her for her lifetime. He is also to have immediately after testator’s death the pastures called Sowdes and Colys and the tenement appertaining to the same, and for lack of issue, properties to descend to testator’s son Richard Whit and the heirs of his body. To Richard White all testator’s lands and tenements in Symson, Mulso and North Crawley, provided that testator’s wife has 20s. yearly out of the properties. To Richard also the copyholding in Cranfeld called Lovetes/Lonetes to him and the heirs of his body, and for lack of such issue, property to revert to testator’s son John and his issue. As to the house where testator lives, he wants to be preserved the ceiling with the “portawles” and the glass in the windows, and the cupboard and table, and the joined stools belonging to the parlour,and they are not to be removed or taken away, but after his wife’s death to remain in the house with his descendants. After death of wife, son John is to have the silver gilt salt and the dozen of silver spoons with “gilt endes of the appostelles” but wife to keep them during her lifetime. To daughter [?]Jane if still alive 5 marks and to her daughter Alis 5 marks to be paid her at her marriage, or before then, at discretion of his executor. To every man child of his other 3 daughters 20s. each and to every of their daughters 13s. 4d.. To Edward Willimote 10s. and to every god child 12d. each. To son John as much of testator’s plate over and above the salt and spoons mentioned above as shall make a goblet of 15 ounces. To son Richard as much plate as will make a goblet of 13 ounces, and testator appoints for this the cup called the [?]”Mite” the standing cup with the cover and the “powerted” piece and shallow mazer. To Richard Willymote the gilt piece which was his fatheer’s. To son John his featherbed of down and a bolster and 2 pillows. Residue of all goods and chattles to wife Elizabeth. Executors wife Elizabeth, sons John and Richard and son-in-law Richard Willmote, and to sons and son-in-law 13s. 4d. each.
