    Folio 20 - William Ballard of Elnestow, husbandman, made 9 Sep. pr. 7 Oct. 1556. “First I bequeth my sowle to allmighty god my maker and Redeymer my body to be buried in the parish church yard of Elnestow”, To mother church of Lyncoln 2d.; to high altar for tithes forgotten 8d.; towards buying a bell whenever the parish goes about buying one 13s. 4d.; to every poor house in the parish where there are many children or needy persons 2d. each house; his mortuary to be according to the custom of the town. To every godchild 6d. To each of the children of his sons Thomas Ballard and Wylliam Ballard 26s. 8d. at the age of 20, the share of any dying before the age of 20 to be divided among the survivors. To wife Joane the house where testator now lives with all his free land and leased land, his household stuff and the rest of his goods and chattels, to hold to her for her life, and on her death all is to go to testator’s son Henry and his issue. Residue to wife Joane who is executrix with son Henry as executor, George Wawton gentleman to be overseer. Witnesses sir John Paulmer curate, George Wawton gent., Thommas Reve, William Wawtoon.
