Summons issued to Edward Tingey, Keeper of an alehouse in Henlow for permitting drunkenness on his premises. Report of Samuel Lake, Labourer of Pirton, Herts. He had gone to Henlow Mill with Samuel Burgess and William Pearce. They were in charge of a Horse and Cart each, the property of Master William Wood, Farmer of Pirton. After leaving the Mill they went to the Crown Inn kept by Edward Tingey. They had 7 pints of beer. Lake had very little of the beer. They remained at the Crown Inn for two and a half hours. When they left Pearce was drunk. A policeman saw them and told Pearce he could not ride on his horse. Lake told him to ride in the cart. Further on Pearce got on to his horse and soon fell off into the road. The policeman came up and took Pearce home and told Lake to look after the carts as Burgess was also too drunk to drive the cart.
