Letter from F.G.R. Soper to Phyllis R. Foss of 18 St.Michael’s Road, Bedford concerning the death of her husband Brigadier Charles Calverley Foss… ‘It is with a feeling of deep personal loss that I send this message of sympathy to you in your great sorrow. It has been my privilege to be associated with your husband in a number of different spheres. We have served together on the Parochial Church Council at St.Peter’s, we were both Trustees of the Church Estate, and until I left Chaucer Road a few months ago, I met him frequently with the Rushmoor Scouts. But the memories of him that I shall cherish longest will be as a member of this Society. He was at his happiest among the wild flowers of the countryside where he was the most wonderful of companions, a mine of information and yet always so modest as to his knowledge. The members of this society share my own feeling of personal loss in his passing, and on their behalf, I extend to you our deep sympathy in your sorrow’.
