    Abstract of title of Henry and Charlotte Land to certain cottages in Park Street, Woburn: [Note: the abstract chiefly relates to a cottage, malthouse and garden at George Street, Woburn]. Reciting: (I) Conveyance by lease & release dated 26th & 27th May 172[?] between (1) William Ashby of Wavendon [Buckinghamshire], yeoman; Francis Curtis of Flamstead [Hertfordshire], husbandman (nephew and heir of Anne the late wife of said William Ashby); Francis Curtis of Greenfield, Flitton, Beds; Mary Page of Wavendon; Edward Austin of Wavendon, wheelwright and Joseph Cooke of Bow Brickhill, Beds, yeoman (2) John Selwin of Woburn, gentleman whereby in consideration of £300 (1) conveys (a-b) to (2). Recitals contained in (I): - covenant to levy fine dated 28th Sep 1712 between (1) Richard Smith of Woburn, draper and Anne his wife (2) William Ashby and Ann his wife (3) Richard Medcraft of Flitton, yeoman whereby (a-b) was conveyed to (2) for life, after to any appointment made by said Ann Ashby, in default of such appointment 1/3rd parts of (a-b) to be conveyed to Thomas Curtis, Francis Curtis and Mary Page (nee Curtis); - will of Anne Ashby dated 21st Nov 1820 whereby she devised (a-b) unto Richard Pangborne of Wavendon, malster, Edward Austin and Joseph Cooke upon trust to sell any pay £30 to Mary Page with remainder to be divided amongst said Thomas Curtis, Francis Curtis and Mary Page. Property described in (I): (a) messuage or tenement in George Street, Woburn then in the occupation of Vertue Savage; (b) close of pasture adjoining (a) of 2a, bounded N between the tenement late of Thomas Staniford and Eve Martin and the close belonging to the Red lion Inn of Simon Taylor, W by messuage of Marmaduke and S by Woburn Town. (II) [no date] will of John Selwin of Woburn, Beds, malster whereby he devised (a-b) [(a) is now described with a malthouse and (b) is as of 3a] to his wife Mary for her life, after unto Henry Clarke of Woburn, innholder in trust for Abigail his daughter; (III) will proved in Bedford on the 12th Oct 1728; (IV) will of Abigail Sheffard (nee Selwin) dated 10th Oct 1790 whereby she bequeathed (a-b) unto her daughter Catherine Reddall for her life, after to her grandson Richard Ambrose Reddall; (V) will proved by Catherine Reddall at Canterbury on the 17th Dec 1790; (VI) mortgage dated 20th Feb 1830 between (1) Richard Ambrose Reddall of Woburn, gentleman (2) Joseph Hurley of same, plumber & glazier whereby (ii) lent £1000 to (i) and (i) conveyed (a-b) to (ii) as security for repayment [(a) is now described as a dwelling and a malthouse and (b) as two closes formerly one]; (VII) bond for mortgage at (VI); (VIII) assignment of mortgage dated 10th Jun 1840 between (1) Joseph Hurley (2) Richard Ambrose Reddall (3) John Green whereby the mortgage at (VI) was assigned to (3); (IX) Will of Richard Ambrose Reddall dated 6th Jul 1841 whereby he bequeathed all his estates in the several parishes of Woburn, Aspley Guise, Husborne Crawley, Beds and Linslade [Buckinghamshire] to Ann his wife for her life, after her decease certain property was to be devised to his cousins Henry and Charlotte Land. Endorsed with various solicitors notes: - ‘It appears the mortgage has been paid off’; - ‘To advise on the title on behalf of the Duke of Bedford the Purchaser and to prepare the receipt, conveyance & bond if satisfactory’ - ‘The terms of purchase are that the Duke shall pay to [?] for their interest £380 and give his bond to Mrs Riddell for securing to her an annuity of £20 during her life for the purchase of her interest’. - extracted with handwritten annotations by Wing & DuCane, solicitors for the purchaser [Duke of Bedford] and Green of Woburn for the vendor.
