Letter from Donald S.Swanson of 1 Stockwell Park Walk, Brixton, S.W [London] to ‘My dear Nellie’ [presumably Ellen Turney] concerning John Millins, deceased… ‘I went to Somerset House today and got the required particulars which are as follows:- 1. Name of executor who proved the will? Mary Ann Millins (widow of the deceased & sole executrix.) 2. Who benefited under the will? Mary Ann Millins (widow) only. 3. Value of Estate as stated on will? The value of the estate is not stated on will, but in the index of 1894, which gives besides the name some particulars of deceased such as occupation & locality, there is also a clause showing value of Estate as £520.13.0 4. Date of Probate? 3rd Dec 1894, granted to Mary Ann Millins, These are the questions asked and the answers to them. The will is a very short one, indeed omitting the printing on the common form of will, the testament is as follows:- “I bequeath all my real and personal Estate to my wife Mary Ann Millins absolutely, and I appoint her sole executor”. – Then follows the name of the witnesses to the signature – William James and Joseph Bennett, railway signalman’.
