- TitleAbstract of the title to the devisees under the will of John Piddington to eight freehold cottages in Great Yard, Woburn contracted to be sold to the Duke of Bedford: Reciting: (I) release dated 22nd Dec 1802 between (1) Henry Rock of Woburn, farrier (2) William Rock, yeoman and Mary his wife (3) Robert Rock of Stony Stratford [Buckinghamshire], blacksmith and Margaret his wife (4) George Rock of Woburn, carrier (5) Samuel Rock of Woburn, yeoman (6) Susannah Rock of Woburn (7) John Circuitt of Woburn, yeoman and Elizabeth his wife (nee Rock) (8) Thomas Shaw of Woburn, auctioneer; release recited: - will of Arthur Rock late of Woburn, blacksmith dated 2nd Oct 1795 whereby he devised all his property in Woburn, Husborne Crawley, Aspley Guise and Ridgmont and elsewhere in Bedfordshire unto and equally amongst all his children living at his decease, and Arthur appointed his brother Henry Rock and son in law John Circuitt as joint executors; - Arthur had seven children living at his decease: William, Robert, George, Samuel, Susannah Rock and Elizabeth wife of said John Circuitt; - will proved in the prerogative court of Canterbury by John Circuitt alone, Henry Rock having since died; - before his death, Arthur Rock sold his estates in Ridgmont and surrendered his three copyhold cottages on the W side of London End, Woburn to the use of his will; - will of Henry Rock the elder late of Woburn, farrier, deceased dated 5th Jul 1799 whereby he devised all his freehold and copyhold property in Woburn and elsewhere in Bedfordshire unto the said seven children of his brother Arthur Rock ; - the greater part of Henry’s estates were copyhold, the freehold parts being 6,7 & 9 Duck Lane, Woburn; Operative: - (1) – (7) agreed to make a division and partition of the said estates whereby the property (the subject of this abstract) was assigned to William Rock; (II) fine dated 1802 between Thomas Shaw (plaintiff) Henry Rock; William Rock and Mary his wife; Robert Rock and Margaret his wife; George Rock; Samuel Rock; Susannah Rock; John Circuitt and Elizabeth his wife of 23 Messuages, 23 barns, 12 gardens, 8a of land & 8a of pasture in Woburn, Aspley Guise and Husborne Crawley, Beds. (III) R6/63/22/1; (IV) R6/63/22/2; (V) release dated 9th Jun 1842 between (1) John London and Hannah his wife (2) George Mellor (3) Charles Gale whereby 1/7th share of (a) was conveyed by (1) to (2); (VI) release dated 20th Jan 1844 between (1) John Piddington Barlow (2) William Staniford (3) Joseph States whereby 1/7th share of (a) was conveyed by (1) to (2); - abstracted with handwritten notes and comments by Wing & DuCane for the purchaser and Green of Woburn for the vendor.
