    George Tomlinson, Police Constable stationed at Stotfold, apprehended William Albone of Arlesey, employed by George Howkes of Arlesey, cautioned him and took him to the Lock Up. He was charged with stealing a shilling, the property of Mr George Hawkes his employer. Sarah Ann Folbigg, daughter of Simeon Folbigg, Grocer/Post Office of Arlesey, stated that on 5 August, a boy in Mr Hawkes' employment came into the shop and asked for a shillings worth of postage stamps for 'Master James' - Mr Hawkes has a son called James. He did not pay for them. George Hawkes, Farmer of Arlesey stated that had received a bill for 5/10 from F Levitt, Grocer of Arlesey. He confirmed that William Albone was employed by him and had been for 1 1/2 years. He did not authoise him to obtain the goods and never received them. On the same day he gave William 1/1- to buy 13 stamps, and a letter. He told him to put 1stamp on the letter and bring the 12 stamps back. He did so. On 11 August he was informed by his servant Winters, that William Albone went to her with 1/- and asked for 2d change to give to Chas Topham as change out of the 1/- in respect of 4 strkes of Chaff. Charles Topham, in William's presence stated that he had 6 strikes of Chaff and paid 1/3
