    War Charities Act 1916 Register; for each organisation registered the following information is given: name of registration authority; name of charity; date of establishment; precise objectives of the charity; address of the central office; name and address of the secretary; name and address of the treasurer; names and addresses of the chairman and two members of the Committee; name and address of bank; name and address of auditor; date of application for registration; date of registration; date of removal from the register. Entries were updated as necessary, previous information being struck through. Organisations registered comprise: - The Comforts Fund for the Bedfordshire Regiment; - Bedfordshire Branch of British Red Cross Society; - Bedfordshire Regiment Prisoners of War Fund; - Bedfordshire Association for Assisting Reserve and Discharged Soldiers and Sailors [later renamed Bedfordshire Soldiers & Sailors Help Society]; - Sandy Belgian Relief Fund; - Sandy Our Boys Christmas Presents Fund; - Maulden Wounded Soldiers Fund; - Vegetable Products Committee (Arlesey); - Arlesey Soldiers and Sailors Parcels Fund; - Harrold Soldiers Parcels Fund; - Christmas Gifts to Shillington & Upper Stondon Soldiers & Sailors; - Flitwick War Memorial Fund; - Toddington Soldiers & Sailors Comforts Fund; - Bedford Regiment Prisoners of War Care Committee; - Aspley Guise & Woburn Sands Branch of the League of Crusaders of St.George [founded to erect bungalows in which disabled ex-servicemen could live with their families, rent and rates free] [W.CH]
