BEDFORD - THE EMBANKMENT Aerial oblique view of The Embankment area looking west. The nearest of the three bridges is the town bridge which connects St. Mary's Street on the left and High Street on the right. The middle bridge is Prebend Street bridge. The third is the bridge for the railway going to Midland Station (not shown) in Ashburnham Road on the right. To the left of town bridge the County Hotel has not been built yet on the corner near the bridge. The large structure in the centre of the picture is Mander college. The large whitish structure slightly lower down to the right of Mander College is the new Town Hall. The road running parallel to the river on the left of it is Cauldwell Street, then becoming Kempston Road after Prebend Street. Over Prebend Street bridge to the left where it adjoins Cauldwell Street and Kempston Road there is no County Hall on the corner. The three circular type drum buildings in the distance to the right of the river are part of the Eastern Electricity site. (Another picture attached showing the Greyfriars area)
