BEDFORD: Oblique view from Mander College/County Hall area looking northwards. The buildings that back on to the river on the north side front on to Commercial Road. On the right hand side of the picture near the bottom in the foreground is Batts Ford. To the left of the picture shrouded by trees is the corner of the old open air swimming baths. The roads running off Commercial Road going diagonally to the right are Costin Street, Maitland Street, Battison Street and Western Street. The bridge on the left hand side is on Midland Road/Ford End Road and goes over the railway line. The triangular edge shaped buildings together with the chimneys behind the bridge belong to the engineering works. The flats in the centre of the picture in the background are on the corner of Ashburnham Road and Woburn Road.
