- TitleDraft statement of Robert Michael White of Ampthill, Beds, solicitor's clerk: - I am a solicitors clerk and came to reside and work in Ampthill on the 26th day of October 1864; - on the 10th October 1865 I entered the employ of Mr. John Greene solicitor Ampthill and remained with him until his death in August 1882, for several years during that period the said John Greene used to allow me to assist his brother George Greene who was an Auctioneer and Estate Agent in Ampthill; - John Greene was the solicitor to the owner of then property (now in dispute) and the said George Greene was the agent of the said owner and used to collect the rents of the said property; - I was frequently on the property and had many transactions with the tenant of the beerhouse known as the White Horse which adjoins the Plaintiffs property on the South side thereof; - On the death of the said John Greene Mr. F.T. Tanqueray of Ampthill and Woburn took over Mr. John Greene's business and papers; - I well remember on many occasions seeing Barrett the Tailor at work with his window open and speaking to him as I passed on my approach; - In the year 1886 I had instructions to put up for sale by auction property belonging to Mr. C.W. Burge which included both properties in question; - In the following year Mr Henry Whitbread brought the property from the vendor by private contract, Mr. Whitbread affected a sale of one portion of the property to Mr Wells brewer Bedford and another portion to the plaintiff.
