(I) Conveyance dated 13th Dec 1843 between (i) The Most Noble John Crichton Stuart Marquis of Bute (ii) John Gray of Luton, Beds, builder (3) George Gregory of Luton, farmer. Operative: - In consideration of £382 (i) conveys (a) to (ii). Property: (a) Piece or parcel of ground lying in Luton formerly part of a close of pasture land in the occupation of Francis Butterfield and from part of which close sold to Edmund Waller, esquire and William Sharpe the piece of land intended to be conveyed had been lately fenced off and enclosed by a stone wall and was then in the occupation of (ii); bounded on the NE & SE by the said piece of land the property of Edmund Waller, NW by the new road or street called Wellington Street and SW by a messuage and piece of land of William Sharpe. Altogether of 47p 23 yards. - With certain rights of way through Wellington Street, George Street, Mayes lane, Peel Street and a close late in the occupation of John Jones. (II) Mortgage dated 15th Aug 1846 between (i) John Gray (ii) Lovel Smeathman of Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, surgeon. Reciting: - Since conveyance at recital (I), (i) has built messuages, tenements and buildings on the conveyed property. Operative: - Mortgage from (i) to (ii) for £6000. (i) conveys (a) to (ii) as security for repayment. Property: (a) Same as (I) with the following added description... 'And also those six messuages or tenements then standing and being upon the said piece or parcel of land or ground & then being in the respective occupations of Mrs. Haydon, Dr. John Appleton, Thomas Potter, Barnett Wolf, John Beeby and Mrs. Spencer'.
