    Depositions in the case of William Harwood v Walter Richard Pepper of Eversholt charged with stealing a quantity of varnish, Japan black and a piece of wood value 7s- the property of William Harwood, coachbuilder of Clifton. William Harwood states 'the prisoner as been working for me as an improver for about 2 years and lately I have missed several things from my shop and on Saturday afternoon March 6th inst from what I saw I gave instructions to Sergt Daniels to watch the prisoner away from his work and about 3.30 pm the prisoner left my premises to go home and when He got to the corner of High Street Shefford I stoped him and took the Bottle of Varnish now produced from his pocket and then took him up the white hart yard and He then took the Bottle of Japan black from his pocket...I directly went and looked over my Stock and found a piece had been cut off an oak plank I and the Sergt then went after the prisoner and I gave him into custody when the prisoner said I sent the peice of wood to Tingreth yesterday and I am very sorry I should not have took them but I have been induced to do so by another person...' The deposition of George Daniel corroborates Harwood. Dismissed.
