Scope and Content
"I bequeth my soull to Allmeightie God and to his gret marcy" and body to be buried in the churchyard.
To son John Barbor the house where testator dwells and the lands belonging to the house, and testator's wife Margret to have a half share in it as long as she remains a widow. To son John also a copyholding called Benettes.
To son William Barbor the house and land called Cannons, and wife Margret to have half the occupation as long as she is a widow She to be at no charge for repairs of either of the properties.
To his son Jerard the land that testator has purchased, and should Jerard die before he has had issue, then the land is to go to William, and if William die before he has issue, then Cannons to go to Jerard, and if William and Jerard both die without issue, then all to remain to John
To daughter Katering £5 on the day of her marriage. To daughter Anne £5 on the day of her marriage, and they are to be each other's heir, and should both die before marriage then the money remain with his executors.
To Elzabeth Cadington 40s.. To Hugh Cadington and his wife 4 ewes. To each child 4 ewes. To Henry Holden the elder 3s. 4d.. To godson John Holden a ewe sheep. To every godchild 4d.. To Mary [?]Porlde the hewed bullock that is at Bradleys at Sutton .To son William a two year old steer that is at Bradleys . To William Barbor 2 horses priced 46s. 8d. at Michaelmas next. To Jerard the white faced cow and 2 ewes. To John Leight 5 sheep or else 10s. in money. To William Barford son of John Barford 2 ewe sheep. To William Parcar of Baldocke 2 ewe sheep.
The lease of Grange to go to sons John and William, and they are to pay the rent equally between them. Wife Margret and son John to have the occupying of Gowses until the end of the lease.
Residue to wife Margret and son John his executors, and he charges them to fulfil testator's father's will.
