Scope and Content
"Furst I bequeth my soull unto Allmeghtie God and hartely I desyre our blessed lady to pray for marsye to Allmeghtie God for me" Burial in Kempston churchyard.
To wife Alys Hiche all the moveable goods in his parlour and within his hall and in his chamber where he dwells in Hardwike, and also in his house at Willyshamsted. Wife to have also four of his best oxen and 4 of his best milch kine, and she is to give some of these to testator's son Thomas Heche on the day of his marriage.
Wife Alys and son Asten to occupy testator's farm together and divide the profits between them each year for the remainder of his lease. Should wife Alys decide to leave the whole of the farm to testator's son Austen and to go and live at her house at Willyshamsted, then she is to have, rent free, the third part of the Newfild at Hardwike during the remainder of the lease, in recompense for her share of the farm.
When testator's daughters Elzabeth, Dorothe, Agnes, Cristian and Alys marry, wife and son Austen to give to each of them on the day of their marriage in ready money, or in goods of that value, £4, and they are all to be heirs of any daughter dying before marriage.
Should his wife Alys remarry or die, then son Austen is charged with paying only 40s. to each daughter on her marriage.
To son William Hiche and his heirs the "mewse as it standeth in Hardwike" (presumably messuage) and to him also £5 in ready money.
To son Austen Heche and his heirs the ("mewse") messuage with the appurtenances in Willyshamsted , after the death of testator's wife Alys "my wyff wiche howse William Swetbone preste father to my said wyff by his last will dyd bequeth unto the said Alys and to hir heyres" and if Austen should die without issue, then the house to go to son Thomas Hiche. To son Austen £5 in ready money.
To son Thomas Hyche and his heirs testator's cottage that stands in Estende of Kempston by the well. Should Thomas die without issue then the cottage to be sold and the money divided between testator's daughters who are alive at the time, those [?]unmarried on the day of testator's burial to have the larger part.
To any child of his daughters alive on the day of testator's burial a calf each, which calves are to be kept by his wife and son Austen until the calves are a year old.
Residue to wife Alys Hiche and son Austen. Wife Alys and William [?]Burne of Wotton to be executors, and Roger Hiche to be supervisor.
