- Scope and Content"I bequeth my Soull unto Allmeghtie God and to all the holy compeny in heven" and burial in the churchyard of Shitlington. To the Common Box of the same church 12d. to be given to poor people of the same parish. To son William Shepherd an acre of barley and 10 quarters of barley. To son Thomas Shephird an acre of barley and 10 quarters of barley. To daughter Jone [?]Solm half a quarter of wheat and to daughter Alys Borowe half a quarter of wheat. To daughter Anne Fild half a quarter of wheat. To Katering and Jone the two daughters of his son John Shephrd a quarter of barley each. To wife Agnes all the implements and the bedding in the chamber where testator lies as it stands except for one ark, and to his wife also the great brass pan, the lesser brass pot of "twene", a posnet, 4 pewter platters, 2 saucers, 2 latten candlesticks, a heifer and a weaning calf. He wishes that his wife should have her "Fynding" during her life with son John Shephird such as meat and drink and her Chamber. And testator wills that son John Shephird shall sow every year one acre of wheat and one acre of barley for testator's wife, and she is to choose 2 of the best acres in Peggesden Fyld "to Fynde hir Apperrell"during her life. Son John is to find her a horse at all times when she is disposed to ride forth during her life. To son John Shepherd and his heirs and assigns for ever: i) the house where testator dwells which is copyhold of the Parsonage Holde of Shitlington, with all appurtenances. ii) a copyhold of the Kinges Holde called Punters with all appurtenances. iii) a copyhold of Master Rotherham's hold. Testator has delivered a surrender after the custom of the manor of the Lordship into the hands of Robert West. Residue of his goods to son John Shepherd. "Also I will to be done for the welth of my soull at the day of my beryall and at my month day as my executors shall thingke best by there discretion". Executors wife Agnes and son John, and Agnes to have 5s. for her work. Witnesses Francys Mylner curate, William Meram, Thomas Hale, William Heyte.
