Letter from William Crouch, clerk of the peace for Buckinghamshire to Frederic Tanqueray of Woburn, solicitor... 'I heard from Mr. Rushforth for the respondents in the 17th ultimo to the effect that the Appeal was settled and I replied on the 18th ultimo that I ought to have a letter from the Appellant's solicitor withdrawing the Appeal. I accordingly informed the Chairman of Quarter Sessions that I understood the appeal was settled and the arrangement for the business of the court have been made on that understanding - there being a heavy calendar of prisoners. I am now informed today for the first time that the Appeal has not been settled. This is very inconvenient. Please write to me tomorrow as to what is proposed to be done on Monday next?'.
