Duplicate letter from R.E. Prothero of Oakley House, Oakley, Bedford concerning the assessment of Chenies Fishery. Including: - Background to the case. - I agree with Mr. Eve that there are certain statutory deductions which should be made in arriving at the rateable value, such as the cutting of weeds annually, the upkeep of the fish hides, the maintenance of the river banks and possibly the cost of watching, all of which are necessary outgoings for the enjoyment of the fishing rights. - The assessment committee have been most un-business like in the conducting of this matter throughout. - The reason of this assessment appears to me to be a little retaliatory, in as much as His Grace has recently successfully appealed against the new assessment on the woodlands.
