Letter from S.A.Francis in Norwood Grove, Manitoba [Canada] on Gordon Ironside & Fares Company Limited, packers and exporters, note paper with a drawing of the factory [in Montreal?] on it: "I am taking this opportunity of answering your card of some time back and hope this will find you all well. Easter will be over when this reaches you and I suppose you will be busy with the practices for your Anniversary services. I am glad to say that we appear to be at the breakup of the winter. The snow has nearly all disappeared the last two or three days although the ice is still in the rivers. We have not had a severe winter by any means in fact it is the mildest for years but one gets tired of the monotony after February has gone. I suppose the Houghton people have told you that I am playing the organ for them again at the church [i.e. St.Philip's in Norwood]. It seems like old times to be back there again. We have such a splendid rector now and it seems such a strange thing that his name is Garton. The congregations are picking up and there is an entirely different feeling among the people. We have started a Chapter of the Brotherhood of St.Andrew, and the service of admission was last night. It is a society for men only and especially young men who pledge themselves to make one earnest effort each week to bring some man nearer to Christ through the Church. It is not a financial institution in any way and takes no part in concerts and entertainments &c. for raising monies &c. There was eleven of us took the pledge last night and it was a very impressive service. The work done is varied and includes sick visiting & hospital visiting, welcoming strangers at church, ushering into seats & handing out books &c. We have started a bible class in connection with it and it is taking well having doubled itself in numbers in a month. One of the members gets up a short paper on the subject chosen & reads it. Then Mr.Garton the rector briefly reviews it and then there is a general discussion. I see I am getting to the end of my time & paper so will close for this. I ask you to remember me kindly to all friends. Mrs.Francis joins me in best wishes to yourself & family".
