Letter from E.A.Yorke in Ampthill to Andrew Underwood: - all he knew of his old school's history was from hearsay; - the school was on land belonging to the Dukes of Bedford which reverted to the Duke if the building was not used for educational purposes; - it was opened by the British & Foreign Bible Society before closure and transfer of pupils to the National School; - it was then run as a private school by a woman who lived at the corner of Chandos and Crayton Roads until it reopened as a Wesleyan School with Wesleyans and Baptists as Managers, R.Goodman of Flitwick being the last surviving original Manager; - the Infants Room used to have galleries but these were removed before the writer arrived at the school; - an ex pupil was Roland Hart, House Surgeon at Bristol Hospital and Gerald King, a local architect; he assumed the logbooks were at Shire Hall [SDAmpthill6-8]
