- thanking him for his hospitality and accepting that Francis Nicolls of Stratford [Connecticut], claimed as the wife's ancestor, was not the brother of Richard Nicolls of Ampthill;
- on one level they were disappointed but still enjoyed the visit;
- asking whether the two separate Nicolls might some how have been related and stating that they had no objection to their name and address being passed on to other Americans following the same route
