Letter from Eline F.Nicolls of Victoria [British Columbia] to Andrew Underwood: - she was visiting England with her husband working on his family tree; - family tradition had them descending from Richard Nicolls but had no record of his marriage; - they had a family crest reputedly granted after the battle of the Boyne; - a large gap existed between Richard and the next known family member William Burke Nicolls, born 1785, Captain, later Major in 72nd Foot, he died after 1835; - William Burke's son Willoughby Halloran Nicolls was born 18812 and died 1887, rising to captain in the army in 1845; - his son was William Burke (1843-1922) whose son was Francis Willoughby (born 1895), whose son Elliott Francis was the writer's husband; - she felt the connection might be in Chichester [Sussex] due to Nicolls plaques on the cathedral walls
