    Letter from Peter J.Reader of Henley-on-Thames [Oxfordshire] to Andrew Underwood: - Abbis family lived in Ampthill from about 1800 with Thomas a blacksmith in Dunstable Street, it is believed that his two sons Thomas and Joseph succeeded him in the trade, extending it to Woburn Street; - the family are believed to also have acted as farriers; - other members of the family were licensees at White Horse and Compasses in Dunstable Street and George in Woburn Street; - Thomas Hopkins born in Kensworth and married Elizabeth Abbis in Ampthill in 1834, believed to be a master butcher in Dunstable Street, possibly with his own slaughterhouse; - asking for more information
