    Letter from Andrew Underwood to David Asprey: - earliest evidence in Ampthill a settlement certificate for Samuel Asprey, ropemaker, of Westoning in 1762 [P30/13/1/3]; - family of Stephen and Elizabeth Asprey are referred to in parish registers from 1777 to 1832, Stephen was a hemp spinner, was Overseer in 1791 and Constable in 1782 and 1791, his will of 1820 is in Bedfordshire & Luton Archives & Records Service; he was fined for building a hovel on manorial waste in 1777, extending his front garden in 1778 and building a hog sty in 1782; he was also fined for an encroachment at Slutts End [i.e. Woburn Street] in 1788; - Joseph Asprey, their son was baptised in 1785 and Guardians accounts of 1821 [P30/12/3] note a journey to apprehend him after leaving his children
