    [f. 240] [Text much marred by a large ink blot] William Curtes of Elnestow, made 17 Nov. 1545, pr. June 1547. Burial in churchyard of Elnestow. To mother church of Lincoln 4d.; to the high altar in Elnestowe 20s.; for the maintenance of God's service in the church of Elnestow 28s. 8d.; To Litell Howghton church 13s. 4d.; to the maintenance of the highways in the parish of Elnestow 6s. 8d.; to be distributed in alms on the day of his burial £[?6] …..s. 4d.. The churchwardens are to take 40 ewe sheep of the best testator owns at the time of his death, or if there be too few, then make up the number with his best wether sheep, and if there be too few sheep, then to have 2s. 8d. a head to make up the number of sheep, which sheep are to be let out, and of the income one half is to be distributed to the poor folks of Elnestow every year on the anniversary of the day of testator's death, and then to have a mass and dirige for souls of testator and all Christians, and the other half of the income to the [?]constables, to be used to increase the number of the stock., so that it will never die. To Cecilye that is in his house 20s.. To Margret Curtes 40s.. To his goddaughter Agnes Hatfild 20s..To every other godchild 12d.. To Emme Kente 20s.. To Barbor of Luton 20s.. "wiche I do clerely geve hem of my voluntary will And that for no maner of Recompens concerneing Stockes for I take yt of my charge and deth that Stookes never agred with me for suche bargaines of grayne as I and the said Stookes and the said Barbor ever had in hande". To John Hull of Aconbery Weston 40s.. To Pake of Bedford one quarter of malt. Testator forgives Weste of Bedford £8 13s. 4d. which Weste owes him. To young William Wolmer 40s.. To Robert Wolmer, Nicholas Kent and Agnes Kente testator's whole crop of corn if it be ready sown at the time of his death, or else they are to have so much barley and other grains as shall sow it (except two acres of wheat) which testator's wife is to have. Out of the said crop Robert and Nicholas are to give £5 13s. 4d. to the said Agnes "yf they thingke it [?]sobesse" or else the crop is to be equally divided between the three of them. To the said Nicholas the second cart, one plough, one share, one coulter, one yoke with a chain, a cart saddle with the "basse" and 2 pair of the best harness. To Robert Wolmer one couple of oxen, all che carts and cart gear, and all other things that belong to the carts and ploughs. To Rowland's wife and to each of her children 6s. 6d.. To every one of Thomas Curtes' children 13s. 4d.. To John Curtes 40s.. To his brother the parson 20s., testator's best gown, best bow with all his shafts, and 2 of his second best platters. All wearing raiment to be equally divided between his brother Thomas and John Curtes. To Thomas Curtes 40s.. To William Wolmer the elder 6s. 8d.. To little Jone in testator's house a ewe and a lamb, or else 2s. 8d. to buy them. To wife Elzabeth £26 13s. 4d. . To the church of Elnestowe 2 pair of the best sheets. To his wife all his wood in his yard, and all household stuff. To Master Edmund Harvey 20s. desiring him to be good helper and councillor to his executors. Residue to wife Elzabeth, to Thomas Curtes and John Curtes, to William Wolmer the elder and "to my brother sir Robert Curtes preste" to be divided equally between them, and they are to be executors, and dispose and order things for the good of testator's soul and all Christian souls. To his wife two of his best kine. To Godeth Nell 16s.. He asks Sir Umfray Ratclyff knight to be overseer, and he to have 20s..
