    Folio 144d - Thomas How senior of Sewell in the parish of Howghton Regis, made 5 Mar. 1545/6, pr. 8 Apr. 1546. Testament Burial in the church yard of All Saints in Howghton; to mother church of Lincoln 2d.; to the high altar for tithes forgotten a bushel of barley; to the torches a bushel of malt; to the Sepulchre light 2d.; to the Rood light 1d.; to the upkeep ("reparations") of Our Lady Altar 2d.. He asks that two trentals be celebrated in Howghton church within 2 years of his death for which he leaves 20s.. To two godchildren 4d. each. Son William is to be kept at school for 7 years after testator's death, if he lives so long. To the same William, when he is 10 years old, 10s. a year until he is 20 years of age, the money to come from the profits of testator's property, and at the age of 20 he is to have 10 quarters of barley; 2 horses price 40s. or else he can have the money instead. Also a cart with wheels priced at 26s. 8d, or else the money; two kine, a bullock, a brass pot and a pan that "that were my Frendes before me"; a sufficient bed with all things belonging to it, a table, a form, a chair, a benchboard, two pewter dishes and 2 candlesticks. To testator's daughter Jone [sic] 5 marks sterling on the day of her marriage, besides what is already hers, and also another 5 marks or goods to that amount within two years of her marriage. Should either child die before the prescribed day, then each to be heir of the other, and should they both die, then all the property to remain to testator's wife Elzabeth, who is to be executrix, with supervisor sir John Cowper priest, he to have 3s. 4d.. Witnesses Henry Hawse the elder, Thomas Howse and Mathew Pedder. Will concerning his lands and tenements. Wife Elzabeth to have all lands and tenements until son William is 20 years of age, and then William and his heirs to enter into them, both freehold and leasehold for ever. Wife not to make any waste, but to keep it all in repair. Should son die before he reaches his lawful age then testator's daughter Elene [sic] to have them, and whichever holds them to pay to wife Elzabeth 13s. 4d. a year for life. Should both children die, and if wife Elzabeth marry again and have a child, then that child to inherit. Should there be no heir, then the property to be sold by the church wardens for the time being, and by 2 honest men of Sewell, and the money arising to go in part to the repairs of Howghton church, and the rest to go towards the repairs to the roads in Sewell as decided by the inhabitants dwelling in Sewell at that time. Witnesses as for the above testament.
