Thank you for yours. Tomorrow will be an anxious day in connection with the Declaration of the Poll here for me. The new register, with a lot of unknown people on it makes this result doubtful, but as far as it is possible to calculate my candidate Lennox-Boyd ought to get a good majority. I have to scrape together a biggish luncheon which is difficult with the rationing. I have the Candidate his wife and the High Sheriff and his wife and other keen supporters - one does not know how long the count may take. I will send you some more books next week when I have looked out several that I think may interest you, but there will be others to follow - or be fetched. These include Nash's Mansions of England - 4 vols - not the original edition but a later & rather smaller one which includes all the interesting pictures of the mansions. Also The Lure of the Antique by [?] Sawyer, Wall & Water Gardens - & Wood & Garden - both by Miss Jekyll - whom I knew - Chats of Old Silver by A.Haydon - The Picturesque - by my cousin Christopher Hussey, Editor of County Life. As to the dog what I want to know is if you would have time to train an adult dog as it might be difficult for me to find one trained to carry, as such nearly [all] have been taken by the Military or Police for work. It is possible that some may be released to be had now that there is peace in Europe. Puppies are tiresome with their illnesses and bad habits. I want to get something that you would like. I think you are right in preferring a dog, though bitches are easier to train and more affectionate. An adult dog would require some little severity till he understood that he had got to obey and be controlled. I look forward to your visit in August.
