    Folio 12d - Agnes Pateman, widow, made 23 May 1542, proved 16 Sept. 1542. "Furst I bequeth my soull to Almeghtie god, our lady sanct Mary and to all the holy compeny of heven and my body to be beried within the Sanctuary of Sanct Polles in Bedford". To the high altar for tithes forgotten 6d.; to the mother church of Lincoln 1d.. To son Henry Pateman all her houses and tenements within the town of Bedford, together with a messuage and land in the parish of St. Peters Marten late held of the house of Harwold (as his father's will shows more clearly). To son Henry also a featherbed, a bolster, a pillow, a bedstead, a coverlet, a folding table in the parlour, the best coffer,the second brass pan. To Mawde Paull (if she remain single) a tenement with the oven situate in the west end of the Shambelles, as appears more plainly in an indenture, and this to go after her death to her son William Pawle. To Mawde Pawle also testator's best kirtle and best petticoat with a kercher. To William Pawle 6s. 8d. and the third brass pan, a coverlet, 2 pair of sheets, the "iiij" coffer and the lease of the house after his mother's death. To John Pawle in money 13s. 4d.. To Richard Pawle in money 13s. 4d., which money is to be given to John Weste tanner and Henry Bowghton until the boys are 18 years of age. To Henry Hatfild a featherbed, a bolster, a pillow, a pair of sheets, a coverlet and a bedstead, the second coffer, and a counter in the hall. To Elzabeth Hatfild a featherbed, a bolster, a pillow, a bedstead, the third coverlet, a pair of sheets, the third coffer, a folding table in the hall, a furnace pan, testator's best gown, a kercher. To Agnes Hatfild in money 20s., and a kercher, which legacies are to be delivered into the hands of Master the parson of St. Cuthbertes and John Ward, until the children are 18 years of age or else at the day of their marriages. To John Pateman 3s. 4d.. To Henry Pateman 6s. 8d., and if it may be spared 3s. 4d. more. To Jone Pateman 6s. 8d, and if it may be spared 3s. 4d. more. To Elzabeth Pateman 6s. 8d. and if it may be spared 3s. 8d. more. To Elzabeth Pateman testator's second gown, second kirtle, second petticoat and kircher. To Mawd Paull all the burning wood in the yard and to Henry Pateman all the timber that belongs to testator both at home and at the wood. William Pawle to have all the hangings within the little parlour. The residue of her goods to be sold and the money to be distributed among the poor people by executor. Should the children of Richard Hatfild or Mawd Pawle trouble her executor Henry Paytman then their legacies to be void. Any surplus to be distributed to poor people. Witnesses Jerrard Stanton, John Ward, John Jarret, Elzabeth Hatfild. Executor Henry Pateman and supervisor Master Byrd. Should John Paull die before the age of 18 or day of marriage then Richard Paull to have his brother's legacy. Should any child of Richard Hatfild die before age of 18 or marriage then their legacy go to survivors of Elzabeth, Henry and Agnes. Should any child of Henry Pateman die before age of 18 or marriage then the legacy go to the surviving children.
