Court held in church of Bedford St. Paul 4 Mar. 1539/40. Bedford St. Paul. John Layfild had committed adultery with Agnes Barton, and both were ordered to do public penance on two Sundays in St. Paul's churchyard before the processional cross and in penitential garb, which was done.
