  • Title
    Court held at Sowthill church 5 Feb. 1539/40 Flytton. The churchwardens appeared and certified on oath that Thomas Russell had broken the injunctions laid on him, that is to say, not to consort with Agnes Fynch the wife of Richard Fynche, and the lord imposed on him public penance, that is on one Sunday to go before the processional cross in penitential garb round the cemetery of Flytton aforesaid with a candle in his hand, as custom is, and that he was not in future to frequent the company of the said Agnes except in the presence of four other persons, under the penalty of excommunication. It was certified that he performed the penance.
