  • Title
    Probate of will of Joan Crawley of Dunstable (as in 13/1), widow. Gives and bequeathes to her son John in fee simple: (a) the mansion house in which she now lives viz. as in BORDV13/1(a) with all houses, outhouses, barns, stables, yards, orchards, gardens and backsides belonging to the same. (b) piece of land adjoining (a) on the E. side called 'the priory' (4 acs.), as in BORDV13/1(a), with appurtenances. Gives and bequeathes to her son John: (c) her lease or term of years and tenant right of Berrystead Farm, as in BORDV13/1(b), with appurtenances and all rights, jurisdictions and perquisites belonging thereto. With proviso that the same is charged with the payment of legacies of £200 apiece bequeathed by the testatrix to her 4 daughters Elizabeth, Mary, Martha and Catherine to be paid to them 2 years next after her decease, or within 6 months of their marriage(s), if they shall so long live (with conditions in the event of non-payment etc). Gives and bequeathes to such of her daughters as remain unmarried and to the longer liver of them unmarried and her heirs for ever: (d) messuage or tenement situated in South St., Dunstable, which she lately purchased of William Bland, with appurtenances, to live in and cohabit together. Declares that all her household goods, which she gives to her 4 daughters towards the furnishing of (d) shall remain equally to their several uses sans division or separation so long as any of them shall remain unmarried, then to the only use and behoof of the longer liver of any of them that shall remain unmarried and her assigns. Gives and bequeathes £10 to her 4 daughters equally to be divided over and above the legacies mentioned above.
