Letter from Charles Dymoke Green at Bloomsbury Distillery, Vine Street, London to "Jack" [John Thomas Green]: "W.H.T. means a fight. The moment I mentioned the subject up went his hackles. His object in the 5 years clause was as I thought to fix a time in giving the boys more interest in the shares. I then said he was not quite explicit in his last clause about "The shares of a deceased partner be offered to the surviving partners". Then came the row. He said he knew he should meet with opposition on that point but had consulted people who Knew all about such matters and they had all said (speaking in case of his own death) that I should only be allowed to repurchase the 1/2 share I had given up to C.W.T. and that his 4 remaining shares should be divided between the two boys. I said that whoever I might think right to do certainly should not admit (as matters now stand) their power to claim more than 1/12. He then brought up his old argument that he could will his shares to his son but that I could not as my boy was not of age. I told him he could do nothing of the kind and that I had as much right to will mine to Dick, Tom or Harry. He then let out and abused both you and myself in no measured terms and quite uncalled for as I had not mentioned your name. He would not see you on the subject but that it had better go to arbitration and you and Tom might fight it out and that Tom had got his instructions and then bounced out of the room. I was in the middle of writing this (what I have mentioned occurred yesterday) this morning when he came to me and said he had been hasty yesterday and wanted to withdraw what he had said against you and thought we might discuss the matter again. I told him not unless he would listen to all I had to say without interruption. I shall not have time to make all that passed but it ended in his making an apology and coming round to more of my way of looking at matters. He cannot forget self when his is planning anything. I must see you to tell you all that passed. I had intended telling him this morning that he had better look out for something else for Henry. Keep this from all[?]as I know all this was talked over at length
