Letter from Maria Thorp at Mount Pleasant, Aspley Guise to Frederic Thomas Tanqueray: "I fear that I was not sufficiently definite in my last note and that it may cause you the inconvenience of calling on me so I just say that my decision is that a sufficient sum should be devoted to the purchase of an annuity of £50 for Mrs.Corder and that the Downings be not named in my will. I am acting entirely free from influence and I believe if you heard all the circumstances of the case you would quite approve it"
