Letter from Maria Thorp at Mount Pleasant, Aspley Guise to Frederic Thomas Tanqueray: "I thank you for proposing to come again on this troublesome business, I certainly could explain the cause much better if I saw you. This marriage affair of the Downings is most disastrous and renders it quite imperative to alter the Will. Mrs.Corder is by no means exempt from blame. I am not disposed to provide for more than £40 or 50 per Ann for her use. I believe Mr.H.S.Corder did not consult any of his brothers before he wrote to you and myself but he did not know the extent of the folly that was going on with these relatives. If you should find it quite convenient to see me again you know I believe that I am always at home".
