Letter from John Green at Berrystead, Woburn to Elizabeth King: "I wish I had written to you before I received your note of the 25 Sepr that you might know I had not forgotten my promise about the Deed. I think I said that Fred Tanqueray should put it into form for me. he did so just before he went to Aldershot & what with his campaigning there and his holiday afterwards with his Father at - (some fishing place) since I did not see him again until last week. Simple as the matter is, there were several points of detail to be considered and my ideas did not altogether coincide with those shown by the form of the Deed he had drawn. he had argued the case very ably in accordance with modern views (I think you know he was a Pupil for a 12 Mo. of Mr.Parke a Friend of John's and a very able modern Conveyancer & Pupilizer). All this looks very formidable for a small matter and People who do not understand such things might say "bother the lawyers, they make mountains of molehills" but we won't mend - Fred's work as well as mine is a Labour of Love so we are not open to the imputation of "making a Job". One of the points of discussion was the appointment or not of new Trustees - we agree it is prudent to do so - it makes the deed so much longer to be sure, but that signifies nothing and the only remaining point is - who are they to be? Fred Tanqueray, quite right for one, not so Chas H.Tanqueray for he in fact, if not now, most probably will be the actual Debtor for what may remain. I think it must be one of your own family for if anyone else would be willing to act with such an unbusinesslike security for the Trust Fund. If you be at a loss whom to appoint and if it be your wish, one of my sons would no doubt consent to have his name used with Fred Tanqueray. As to the present Trustees Truman, I think, knows what has passed. I will speak to William Denison. If he give the matter a thought it will simply be one of satisfaction at being discharged as soon as I hear from you the new Deed shall be written on the back on the old one and sent to you to be signed
