Letter from John Samuel Tanqueray at Llangollen Brewery [with company trademark] to Elizabeth King: "You kindly mentioned in one of your letters that I had your consent to use a £1000 in George's hands. I understand you have Aveling's security for £500 of it. Have you any objection to give me a letter for the other £500. Our Trade is going on well but we have such difficulty in getting our money in soon enough to meet our engagements therefore am obliged at times to overdraw our Bankers and shall have to do so this week for £200 and I think they will meet us more readily if I had a letter to show them as security. We have as much capital as I want to have and our Trade is safe and requires only time & patience to realize it as the Welsh are slow payers. …eman is satisfied with our accounts & position & has done so much for us that I do not like to ask him for more. Jane says I might have said how much obliged I should be but I know you understand me"
