    Folio 119 Robert Smyth of the parish and town of Luton made 5 Apr. 1542, pr. 10 May 1542. "Furst I bequeth my soull unto Almeghtie God And to All the holy Compeny of heven". Burial in the church of Luton; to the high altar of that church for tithes forgotten 12d.; to the mother church of Lincoln 4d.; to the mending of [?]Mune Layne 6s. 8d.. To Elzabeth Gere (his wife's daughter) 5 marks. To every godchild 20d.. Son John Smyth and his heirs are to keep all that has been given, and they are to keep every half year an obit for the souls of testator, his wife, his friends and all Christians in the church of Luton "aftur the custome of the said churche", spending 6s. 8d. at each obit, and having at each 17 poor people. To wife Agnes 40 marks and her own household stuff that she brought with her. To his wife also one of the three goblets, to be chosen by herself, and also an acre of wood brought home to her, besides the wood in the yard. To her also a featherbed besides the one she brought, and 6 silver spoons and a third part of testator's household stuff. Wife is also to have the house where testator lives for her widowhood, and his son John to be bound for 100 marks to perform this. To Agnes 5 quarters of malt. £7 is to be bestowed at his burial and at his month's tide. Residue to son John Smyth, sole executor. Supervisor John Gweneth, clerk, vicar of Luton, who is to have 13s. 4d., and he is also the sole witness.
