    Folio 98 John Cupper/Cowper made 6 July 1541, pr. 10 Nov. 1541. Burial in the parish church yard of Clophill; to the mother church of Lincoln 4d.; to the stone bridge of Clophill 3s. 4d.; to the Cawse (causeway) at Barton 13s. 4d.. To his son William and his heirs his house with the appurtenances in Barton, and if William die without heirs then the house is to go to son John and his heirs. To wife Anne a featherbed, a mattress, 4 pair of sheets, two coffers, for her lifetime, then to go to testator's son William Cowper. Son William is to keep testator's wife with meat and drink for her lifetime, and if she prefers to leave his house, then William to give her 4d. a week for the term of her life. To dau. Jone a "chaffer". To son John an old chaffer. To son John a half acre of land lying in the parish of Stretley, also an acre of land lying in Barton parish, if the acre is in tilth at testator's death. If it be sown, one land is to remain to son John, and the other to son Robert. To son William all the timber in Barton "yff he bylde with the same". Residue to son William Cowper.
