Scope and Content
Burial in the church yard of Our Blessed Lady in Keysho; to the high altar in Keysoo for tithes forgotten 2s.4d.; to the bells there 3s. 4d.; to the high altar in Bolnest for tithes forgotten 2s. 4d.; to the bells there 3s. 4d.; to the church of Lincoln 12d..
His farm in Bolnehurst with all the appurtenances, as in the lease, is to go to testator's wife and his eldest sons Thomas and Walter for 6 years, while his wife remains a widow, and after the 6 years the farm is to go to his son Thomas and his heirs for the remainder of the lease, and if Thomas should die without issue, then the farm to go to son Walter and his heirs, in default to Walter's brother John and his heirs, in default of heirs to testator's eldest daughter.
To his son Walter and his issue a copyhold house and land and a pightle in the parish of Bolnehurst, in default of heirs to testator's son John and his heirs. Son Thomas is not to sell either the house or land in Keysho, though he may sell to his brothers Walter or John, or to the next of his blood.
To his son Walter and his issue all testator's purchased land in the parish of Keysoo, that is land and meadow and a grove called Pynnyngsey in the parish of Pertenhall, and in default of issue this to go to his brother Thomas.
To his wife his house, land and pasture in the parish of Keysho as long as she remains a widow, with the revrsion to his son Thomas.
To his son John a grove called Salleweys in the parish of Bolnehurst, and £12 (to be paid within 6 years) which money should be put in the hands of his friends. Should John die without issue, then the grove is to go to his brother Walter, and should John die before he is married, then the £12 to be divided between his sisters.
Should his wife (remaining a widow) fall into poverty, then son Thomas to support her.
To his four daughters £12 (presumably between them), and should any die before marriage, then her share to be divided between her surviving sisters, and also to each dau. 6 quarters of malt, 2 tables and 2 forms. All the other tables to go to son Walter.
To the three youngest daughters 2 bullocks each, and 1 bullock his eldest daughter.
Should wife remarry then she and his sons Thomas and Water are to deliver all the legacies to the children, or to their friends to hold for them. Sons Thomas and Water to carry half the cost of the legacies and half the charges appertaining to the farm in Bolnehurst.
His wife is to see that his son Thomas has peaceable possession of the house and lands in Keysho before the day of her remarriage.
His executors (his wife and his sons Thomas and Water) to "have in kepeing my cope to se yt be Redy every principall feste to wirshippe god withall" in the parish church of Bolnehurst, which cope is to remain in the custody of the longest dweller of the testator's blood in the aforesaid farm, and after, as [?]decided by the parson and 4 honest men of the parish.
Son Thomas and his heirs to keep testator's obit in the parish church of Keyso for the souls of testator and his father and mother and all Christians.
The son who has the farm in the parish of Bolnehurst is to give to the poor in the parish every Good Friday 12d. in bread.
To his wife half his horses, half his kine, half his oxen, half his young bullocks and half his sheep. The other half of his stock is to go to his 2 eldest sons, and are in addition to have 2 cows each.
To his wife half his carts and cartgear, and half his ploughs and plough gear, and the other half to go to his 2 eldest sons.
All his square timber, cart boot and plough boot in the parish of Keyso, to go to his son Water, and should Water die without issue, it is to be divided between all testator's children. If Water decide to sell, then he shall sell to his brothers or sisters more cheaply.
To Water all rough timber in Keyso, and should he die unmarried, then it is to be divided between testator's other children.
To his dau. Joan 40s., a cow and a bullock, but if she die before marriage, then these to go to her sisters.
