  • Scope and Content
    Burial within the church door of All Hallowes in Lytlington. For his mortuary as is customary; to the mother church of Lincoln 4d.; to the high altar for tithes forgotten 12d.; to the Rood light 6 pounds of wax; to the upkeep of the bells 20d.; for an honest priest to sing and say mass and prayers for the souls of himself, his good friends and all Christians in Litlington, for a whole year, £5 6s. 8d.. To ten parishes round about Litlington 3s. 4d. each parish, to be distributed among the poor inhabitants: viz. Woburn', Eversholte, Husburn' Crowley, Regemont, Stepengley, Milbrock, Flytwike, Marston Morteyn, Asple Guyse and Malden. To every godchild 4d.. To his wife Jone Julyan a mazer bound with silver and gold for her lifetime, then to go to his son Thomas, and should Thomas die without issue, the mazer to go to his brother John. To son John half a dozen of silver spoons. If both Thomas and John die without issue, the 12 spoons are to be sold and the moneyused in deeds of charity for souls. To son John £6 13s. 4d. at the age of 21. To son Thomas a tenement in Leighton Boserd which testator bought of Leweys Tomys of Leighton, which tenement is held of the Dean of Wyndesore by copy of court roll. To son Thomas also a tenement, close and certain lands in Husburne Crowley which testator late bought of John Stamford of Husburne Crowley, which are held of our Sovereign Lord the King, and were late appertaining to the Prior of Dunstable, and held by copy of court roll. To wife Jone the tenement with the appurtenances where testator now dwells, and another tenement which testator lately bought of [?]Maryan [?]Mvrd, to hold for her lifetime. The testator has that day surrendered these tenements in to the hands of John Wright (one of the tenants of that manor) to the use of Jone for her life, and then to the use of his son John. To his son John two tenements with their apurtenances in Boweden in Lytlington, which testator has surrendered into the hands of John Wright to the use of the said John Julyan. Testator has this day made a surrender into the hands of the said John Wright of all lands, tenements, meadows, astures, closes, with appurtenances, in the parish of Lytlington to the use of his son John Julyan at the age of 21 years, though John Julyan will be 13 years old at Easter next. The said four tenements are at present held by copy of court roll of Our Sovereign Lord the King, having late belonged to the "place of nunnes in Barkeing" in Essex. Should testator's son Thomas Julyan die without issue then his properties are to come testator's son John Julyan, and if John die without issue, his property is to revert to his brother Thomas. If both sons die without issue, then the properties are to be sold by his executors, and the money used in deeds of charity for souls. The names of fellow tenants present at the surrender of the copyholdings are Gryffyn Thomas, John Medelton, George Ade and Henry Butler. Residue is at the discretion of his wife Jone and his son Thomas Julyan, his executors. John Lyon' gentleman is to be Supervisor, and he to have 20s. sterling. Witnesses sir Peter Dent vicar of Lytlington, Gyrffeing Thomas of the same place, William Bernes of Woburn chapel, John Dynnys and John Jenkenges senior Stepeingley.
