Apprenticeship Indenture: Joseph Chessum with consent of his father Samuel Chessum of Biggleswade, gardener is made apprentice to Caleb Soundry of Biggleswade, draper & bootmaker for a term of 7 years from the 17th Jan 1888 until the 17th Jan 1895. Usual prohibitation on alcohol, gaming etc, and shall not contract matrimony during the term. Caleb Soundry to pay Joseph 1s per week for the first year, 2s per week for the second year, 3s per week for the third year, 5s per week for the fourth year, 7s per week for the fifth year, 9s per week for the sixth year and 12s per week for the seventh year. Signed by Joseph Chessum, Samuel Chessum (his mark) and Caleb Soundry and witnessed by Alfred Stapley.
